Fresh perspectives on the British Museum for 50% less
How are museums implicated in histories of imperial power? Count the complex (and messy!) ways with the help of this exhibition co-created by Hew Locke and the British Museum.
Hew Locke: what have we here? sees the renowned Guyanese-British artist explore and challenge narratives of British Imperialism using objects from the British Museum’s collection, alongside specially-commissioned new works.
Objects reframed by Locke include Taino sculptures, a Guyanese Akawaio feather headdress, Edo drums, and the earliest surviving drawings of Indigenous Americans by a European artist. Locke’s own sculptural works are also on display, including figures that observe visitors from different vantage points within the exhibition space.
If you’re ready for a fresh perspective on the British Museum's history and collection — including its close ties to the British Empire — you’ll want to snap up tickets. And now you can get them for half price! Just enter the code LOCKE50 at checkout for 50% off standard tickets.
